ST. PATRICK’S DAY SHAMROCK PRETZELS

These sweet & salty snacks are (sham)ROCKIN!

Years ago, St. Patrick’s Day meant bar-hopping, loud music, and one too many pints of Guinness. But these days, I’m trading in the hangovers for something sweeter– literally! Now I celebrate the Irish holiday with these easy, festive shamrock pretzels. I stumbled upon this snack idea on Pinterest a few years ago and have been making them with my family as part of our March 17th tradition ever since.

They are simple to make and only have four ingredients! These treats are a creative idea to make for holiday parties, to bring to school events, to lure leprechauns to their traps, or just to indulge in at home. The saltiness of the pretzels enhances the sweetness of the chocolate, creating an irresistibly delicious bite that’s the best of both worlds– sweet, salty, and completely delectable!

INGREDIENTS

  • 16 oz. bag of mini pretzel twists
  • 1 bag of pretzel sticks
  • 10 oz. bag of Rolo candies
  • either 9 oz. bag of mint M&Ms or 10 oz. bag of milk chocolate M&Ms (picking out the green ones)
  • parchment paper
  • baking sheets
a bowl of pretzel twists, a bowl of pretzel sticks, a bowl of rolo candies, a bowl of green M&Ms

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This will prevent the shamrock pretzels from sticking to the tray.
  3. Lay out the pretzels with 1 pretzel stick for the stem of each shamrock and 3 mini pretzel twists around the top of each stick to form a shamrock shape.

4. Place a Rolo candy in the middle of the shamrock where the pretzels all meet.

5. Repeat until you have the number of shamrocks you would like to make.

6. Heat in the oven for 2-3 minutes. The chocolate should be starting to melt, but not totally melted.

7. Press a green M&M in the middle of the slightly melted Rolo and gently push down so that the chocolate connects all four pretzels.

8. Put baking sheet into the freezer until the chocolate sets (about a half hour).

9. Gently peel off the pretzel shamrocks from the parchment paper. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about 3-5 days.

St. Patrick’s Day is a lively celebration filled with festive parades, cheerful music, and an all-around joyous atmosphere that brings people together in the spirit of Irish tradition. Whether you’re decked out in head-to-toe green attire, sipping a beer, or indulging in a piece of Irish soda bread, the holiday is all about embracing fun and community. And what makes any celebration even better? A delicious snack to keep the energy high! These shamrock pretzels add an extra layer of enjoyment to the fun.
