BOLOGNESE (-ISH) SAUCE RECIPE

PREP TIME: 10 minutes

COOK TIME: 40-45 minutes

OVERALL TIME: 50-55 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil 
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 yellow onion, diced
  • 1- 1 1/3 pounds ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup white cooking wine
  • 1/2 cup chicken or beef broth or bone broth
  • 12 oz. marinara sauce
  • 1 cup milk or 1/2 & 1/2
  • 1 pound pasta of your choice
  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese, if desired

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Heat oil in a large pot or deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add carrots and cook for about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Add the celery and onion.  Cook until all vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the beef, breaking it with a wooden spoon into little bits.  Cook until browned.  
  4. Add salt.
  5. Pour in white cooking wine and cook until wine is evaporated.
  6. Add broth and cook until evaporated as well.
  7. Pour in marinara sauce. 
  8. Let the sauce simmer
  9. When sauce has reached your desired thickness, stir in the milk.
  10. After adding the milk, boil some water for the pasta.
  11. Cook pasta according to the package instructions.
  12. When pasta is cooked, drain, then add to the bolognese sauce.
  13. Mix sauce and pasta thoroughly.
  14. Divide between bowls and garnish with parmesan cheese if desired.
